Ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today appointed Mehboob Beg, who had quit National Conference (NC) last year, as the party's Chief Spokesperson.
The announcement was made by the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti here, a party spokesman said.
He said Beg, a former minister and parliamentarian, is in the state politics for the past more than two decades.
He was a member of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly for two terms during 1983-1987 and 2002-2008 from south Kashmir's Anantnag assembly constituency.
During March 2009 to May 2009, he was member of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council also. Beg, son of late Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg, who was the trusted lieutenant of the former Chief Minister and NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, was a medical practitioner before joining politics.
He quit the National Conference ahead of the Assembly elections last year, saying he was never taken into confidence by the party leadership and his suggestions on organisational matters and development works in Anantnag were ignored.
