PDP today said there has been a pragmatic improvement in the governance of Jammu and Kashmir and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti is committed to make the state an island of peace.
"With a pragmatic improvement in governance in Jammu and Kashmir state, the expectations of the people have increased and they have now started appreciating PDP-BJP alliance headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is committed to make the state an island of peace," PDP Vice President Rangil Singh told reporters here.
He said the late PDP stalwart Mufti MohdSayeed had a vision to make the state a symbol of tranquility and beauty.
"People are satisfied now because Mehbooba ji has also started following her father's path with a mounted zeal and clear strategy," he added.
He said people of the state, especially Jammu region, have been appreciative of Mehbooba's efforts to streamline the administration to bring accountability and transparency, curb corruption, bring in women empowerment, holding frequent District Development Board meetings and special incentives to reduce unemployment, Singh added.
He said the socio-economic amelioration of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and minority communities have been accorded a top priority by the state government.
In reply to a query, Singh said special attention is being paid to the settlement of displaced persons of 1947 for which the government is already committed.
He said the government is mulling declaring transport as an important industry in the state.
On the government's plan for transport sector, Singh said that thousands of families, particularly those displaced in 1947, earn livelihood through this sector.
"The government is serious about uplift of these people and making efforts to help them at the grassroots level," he added.
Maintaining that Mehbooba was committed to make Jammu and Kashmir a model state, Singh said people have a ray of hope under the present government.
