Strongly condemning the death of a 24-year-old youth outside a mosque in Sopore, PDP today accused Jammu and Kashmir government of 'losing grip' on law and order situation in the state.
Terming the death of Waseem Mehraj Malla as "gruesome" and "barbaric", PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti lashed out at the armed forces saying they are "baying for blood" of innocent people.
She held the present NC-led government responsible for such unfortunate tragedies, which has become a "routine" now and claimed that the government has miserably failed to save the lives of innocent people.
"Reoccurrence of killings at the hands of unknown gunmen put a serious question mark on the credibility and seriousness of the government to protect the human lives," she said.
Expressing solidarity with the deceased family, she said Malla's loss is irreparable, in every sense, for the society in general and for his family in particular.
She also demanded an independent probe in the incident so that the perpetrators can be brought to book at the earliest.
Malla was shot at from close range by unidentified gunmen outside his house in Krankishivan area of Sopore, 55 kms from Srinagar last evening. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition but was declared dead on arrival.
