Two people died and another injured when a 42-year-old man said to be mentally challenged allegedly attacked them in the district on Sunday, police said.
Nallasamy attacked two people sleeping in a temple premises in Anthiyur, with a wooden log, they said.
The duo including the watchman of the temple died on the spot, they said adding the deceased were aged around 50.
Later, he stabbed another person at a bus terminus, using a knife.
However, the villagers caught hold of Nallasamy and handed him over to the police.
The injured was admitted to Anthiyur Government Hospital, police said.
A murder case has been registered against Nallasamy, who was stated to be suffering from mental illness, they said.
