Churu followed with 44.8 degrees Celsius while Phalodi recorded 44 degrees, Kota 43.6, Jaipur 42.0, Bikaner 42.2, Barmer 42.1 and Ajmer 41.7 degrees Celsius.
In Odisha too, Bhawanipatna scorched at 44 degrees Celsius, followed by both Bolangir and Titlagarh at 43.5, and Sambalpur 43.1 degrees Celsius. Three other places recorded a high of above 40 degrees Celsius. Capital Bhubaneswar was relatively pleasant at 35.7 degrees Celsius.
Mercury rose in the national capital too settling at 42.3 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average while the humidity level oscillated between 23 and 59 per cent.
In Uttar Pradesh, light to moderate rain and thundershowers occurred at isolated places in eastern parts of the state while it was dry in the western parts.
According to the Met Department, 3 cms of rainfall was recorded at Harriya while Chandradeepghat, Regoli, Kakardharighat each received 1 cm of rain.
Day temperature rose appreciably in Meerut and Kanpur divisions, rose in Bareilly, Jhansi and Agra divisions, and changed a little in the remaining divisions in the state.
Weather in West Bengal remained pleasant with the highest day temperature being 35.6 degrees Celsius owing to scattered rains or thundershowers in different parts of the state.
Kolkata, Bankura and Asansol recorded the day's highest temperature at 35.6 degrees Celsius each, according to the MeT Department here.
The mercury went up to 35.5 degrees in Sriniketan, while it reached 35 degrees in Burdwan.
In south India, Chennai, Hyderbad and Thiruvanathapuram recorded 39.4, 39 and 32.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
