Mexican police seized a ton of so-called "black cocaine" at Mexico City's airport and destroyed more than 100 tons of marijuana plants in western state of Nayarit, according to statements from federal authorities.
Federal police and agents from the attorney general's office made the cocaine bust after learning the drug shipment was arriving from Bogota, Colombia.
Police found 40 sacks of the substance, each weighing 25 kilogrammes. The sacks were labelled zinc oxide, but tests showed
it was cocaine and cocaine base mixed with another, unidentified substance.
Black cocaine is cocaine intentionally mixed with another substance to disguise it. When it arrives at its destination it is chemically treated to extract the cocaine.
No one claimed the shipment.
In Nayarit, authorities were tipped to the existence of marijuana fields. Federal and state authorities found 10 fields with more than 114,000 marijuana plants, according to a statement yesterday.
