When the appeal of N Banu, sister of victim K Vijayan's wife, came up for hearing, a division bench comprising Justice A Selvam and Justice P Kalaiyarasan issued notice to the CB-CID department, which investigated the case.
Principal Sessions Judge G Jayachandran here had on July 13 sentenced all seven convicts, including Banu, to life imprisonment in connection with the 2008 murder of Vijayan, foster son-in-law of the late chief minister.
As accused Bhuvana was absconding, the case was split and the charge sheet against the seven others filed by the police in the trial court.
According to the prosecution, the motive behind the murder was Banu's disputes with her brother Raja over control of one of the schools run by the family and related issues involving properties and cash transactions, which also led to several court cases.
The bench posted the appeal for further hearing to Sept 23.
