Militant killed in encounter at Awantipora

An unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Awantipora area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir this evening, police said.
Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Ladoo area of Awantipora, 30 kms from here, following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
As the security forces were closing in on the militants, the ultras opened fire which was returned by the troops, the official said.
In the exchange of fire, one militant was killed, the official said, adding his identity and group affiliation was yet to be ascertained.
