Militant killed in encounter with security forces in Kashmir

An unidentified militant was killed today in an encounter with security forces in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, army said.
Acting on specific information about the presence of militants in Putshai area of Lolab in the district, security forces cordoned off the area and began a search operation today, an army official said.
He said as the search operation was going on, hiding militants fired upon the forces triggering an encounter.
One militant has been killed in the operation so far, the official said.
The official said that the identity of the slain militant was not immediately known.
The operation was going on when last reports came in, the official added.
