Four gunmen riding on two motorcycles last evening opened fire on police officials manning the checkpoint located in the jurisdiction of Pahripura police station in Peshawar.
Four police officials were killed in the attack.
A militant outfit by the name of Ansarul Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attack. The group's spokesman Abu Baseer told Geo News from some unknown place that their Razakars (volunteers) had attacked the police checkpost.
Incensed relatives of the slain policemen staged a protest by placing the bodies on road near Bala Hisar Fort.
They chanted slogans and blamed the government for the death of their loved ones.
