MIM registers impressive performance in Aurangabad civic polls

Hyderabad-based Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) today registered an impressive performance, winning 25 seats in the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation elections in its maiden outing there.
Last year, the party won two seats in the Maharashtra Assembly polls, one from Aurangabad and another from Byculla in Mumbai.
MIM's Warish Yusuf Pathan won from Byculla, trouncing BJP strongman Madhukar Chavan and Akhil Bharatiya Sena's Geeta Gawli, while Imtiaz Jaleel was elected from Aurangabad Central, defeating Shiv Sena's Pradeep Jaiswal.
Even before the entire results were out today, MIM workers and Jaleel's supporters celebrated the party's performance, organising a victory rally in Aurangabad.
"The MIM performance shows that people want development and are tired of the false promises made by other parties," Jaleel said.

"In the days to come, we will perform even better. The results also show that people's power is greater than money power," the MLA said.
MIM had made a foray in the state in 2012, clinching 11 of the 81 seats in Nanded Municipal Corporation elections. The party is now eyeing the Mumbai municipal corporations polls, slated in early 2017.
