Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal today suggested forging a tripartite partnership among HRD and IT ministries as well as the private sector to strengthen government's initiative to impart skills by developing specialised courses for different sectors.
Sibal, acknowledged for shaping the National Vocational Education Qualification Framework during his stint in the HRD Ministry, also harped on the benefits of establishing community colleges to generate skilled workforce for the industry.
Emphasising on active participation of the private sector in the drive to impart skills, he suggested a "tripartite partnership between the HRD, IT Ministry and the private sector to develop courses in specific areas where they require skills".
"Even the concept of community college needs to be done where factories in close vicinity can benefit out of it. What community colleges will do is that it will integrate with the workplace," he said.
Sibal was speaking at a function here which saw AICTE entering into an agreement to use the training facilities and faculty of BSNL for the benefit of students in AICTE approved institutions under its Employability Enhancement Training Program (EETP).
HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju said the initiative will see 25,000 students being trained for IT and telecom sector.
"The initiative is a big leap for the telecom sector and we want every sector should come forward and forge ties with every ministry," he said.
The government plans to train 50 crore people by 2020 under its skilling initiatives.
