With three minor girls going missing from an orphanage here, Delhi High Court today asked the city government and police as to what steps they had taken to trace them.
The matter was taken up after Supreme Court judge Justice T S Thakur forwarded it to the high court for appropriate action following media reports.
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath issued notice to the Delhi government, Delhi police and the orphanage, Kilkari Rainbow Home for Girls at Kashmere Gate here, and sought their replies by December 2.
The bench also sought a status report from the police and Delhi government on what was the current situation regarding the missing minor girls.
The matter was initiated suo motu by the high court after it received a letter from the apex court registry on the direction of Justice Thakur, referring to a November 5 news report about the incident.
According to the report, the girls were reported missing under mysterious circumstances from the orphanage controlled by Delhi government on the night of November 1 and were not found till the night of November 4.
As per the news article, police had said there were chances that the girls might have fallen prey to an organised syndicate involved in human trafficking and had lodged a kidnapping case.
