Miscreants attempt to desecrate Ambedkar's statue, one held

Tension gripped Khurai town, the constituency of Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh in the district, last night when unidentified persons allegedly tried to desecrate a statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
In the aftermath of the incident, the SP today removed the Khurai police station in-charge and suspended three policemen, including an ASI, on Singh's directives, a senior police official said.
The incident took place last night when the miscreants allegedly tried to desecrate the statue following which Ambedkar's followers staged a road blockade in the area, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits, officials said.
SP Sachin Atulkar told PTI that one Sujeet Dikshit has been arrested in connection with the incident and a case registered.

The Home Minister issued a statement stating that the BJP government holds Ambedkar in high esteem and announced a cash reward of Rs one lakh for those who provide information about those involved in the incident.
He also said Rs 16 lakh was being allocated for beautification and renovation of Ambedkar Square.
Singh was in Mumbai last night for his son's medical treatment. He reached Khurai as soon as he was informed about the incident, the statement added.
