Journalist-turned-director Vinod Kapri says he decided to make "Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho", a social satire based on real incidents, as he felt he could not do justice with it as a scribe.
"There are some stories which you cannot say in two columns, or in half-an-hour time slot, some stories you need to tell with more detailing. And the incident which inspired me to work on 'Miss Tanakpur...' was one such story," Kapri told PTI.
"It was a news about a boy who was sentenced five years of jail for raping a buffalo. I got intrigued by the story and visited the village in Rajasthan, met the boy, his family, the accusers, doctors, lawyers, veterinary doctors and interesting stories started to unfold," he said.
The director has managed to bring together an ensemble cast of talented actors like Annu Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra, Ravi Kishan, Rahul Bagga and Hrishitaa Bhatt in the movie.
"I was fortunate I could work with the actors I had on my mind while I was writing the characters. It wasn't difficult convincing anybody. Dates were the only problem."
Funnyman Sanjay Mishra, who is essaying the role of a 'Tantrik' feels, to play such a unique character one needs to strike a perfect chemistry with other characters.
"I am playing a 'Tantrik' in the film. To help me in my role I was given this 'red book' with solutions a 'Tantrik' would give for various problem.
"However, to improvise and portray a role you need good supportive characters. The chemistry me, Annu Kapoor and Ravi Kishen share is perfect and has brought out the best from all of us," said the "Dum Laga Ke Haisha" actor.
Annu Kapoor who was last seen in "Dharam Sankat Mein" is playing the shrewd head of a village.
"I am playing the head of the village and Maya (Hrishitaa) is my wife. I play the main antagonist in the film," he said.
Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishan believes "Miss Tanakpur..." is a beautiful love story set against a social satire.
"I am playing Bheema, who has everything but wants to be the 'Pradhan' of the village. He is well built but a dumb man. From Shyam Benegal to Mani Ratnam, I have worked with all big names but working on this film has given me immense pleasure."
"Haasil" actress Hrishitaa will be seen playing the role of a rebellious village girl in the movie
"Maya is a village girl but she is not shy. She is a rebellious character but she is also very limited within her social boundaries.
"I am more than happy to be a part of such a wonderful script. The film will be a surprise and a shock, but it will entertain you all throughout," said the 34-year-old actress.
Presented by Fox Star Studios, "Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho" is slated to release on June 26.
