In a statement here, he said the cost of each solar unit would come to around Rs 2.5 lakh.
A 3 KW solar rooftop unit produces 12 units of electricity per day and 360 units per month.
He said each solar grid would produce electricity worth Rs 3,441.60 per month.
The schools can use this solar power and sell the surplus electricity to the Mangalore Electricity Company Limited (MESCOM) grid, he said.
D'Souza said he would write to MLAs of allconstituencies in the district to send names of five schools from each constituency.
A sum of Rs 26 lakh from the MLC fundhad already been used for installing solar rooftop units atthe deputy commissioner's office, six gram panchayats and 40 houses in endosulfan-affected villages, he said.
