The Allahabad High Court today sought to know from the Centre as well as the Uttar Pradesh government whether there was any policy in place for allowing installation of mobile phone towers in residential areas.
The order was passed by a division bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice PKS Baghel on a PIL filed by a resident of Saharanpur district, Ravindra Kumar, who had challenged an order of the District Magistrate allowing installation of a tower of state-owned telecom service provider BSNL near a village.
The petitioner had alleged that radiation caused by the mobile tower posed a serious health hazard before residents of the village.
Directing the Centre and the state to file their reply, the court fixed December 5 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
