Sood was produced in the court as her custody in the Kakkad case ended today and the magistrate remanded her in judicial custody. However, she was soon arrested in the Tikku murder case.

Sood is the wife of gangster Vijay Palande, but he had introduced her to many people as his sister.

Police further said that they will now find the exact role of Sood in the murder of Tikku adding that they were not ruling out any further arrest in the case.

The crime branch officials also revealed that Kakkad ran a prostitution racket in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Palande, who was initially arrested for the murder of Delhi-based businessman Arun Kumar Tikku, was today remanded to police custody till May 10 in connection with the Kakkad murder case. Palande's two accomplices - Manoj Gajkosh and Dhanjay Shinde - were also sent to the police custody till May 10.

Palande, who wanted to usurp Tikku's property in Mumbai, was arrested on April 10 for the murder of the 67-year-old businessman on April 7. On the same day, he escaped from police custody before being re-arrested hours later.

According to the police, Palande, during interrogation in the Tikku murder case, confessed that he killed Kakkad last month and dumped his body on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Police later recovered decomposed body parts of Kakkad from forests at Kumbharli Ghat in Chiplun near Mumbai. PTI VI ABC
