Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag during his visit to the South Western Command Headquarter today highlighted the transformation and modernisation in the Army to enhance its capabilities.
Modernisation and induction of state-of-the-art equipment is in progress to enhance the level of operational readiness and overall military capability, he said in an interaction with officers here.
Defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha said the Army chief gave an overview of the external and internal security environment and emphasised that continuous vigil and efforts are required to face the nation's security challenges.
"He (the General) reiterated that collectively we must continue to attain pinnacles of excellence with multi-pronged efforts and adhere to the time tested values and principles that are the very bedrock of the Indian Army," the spokesperson said.
During his visit, the Army Chief was accompanied by his wife and Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) central president Namita Suhag. They were received by South Western Army CommanderLt Gen Sarath Chand and AWWA regional president Bindu Sarath Chand.
"Instituting enhanced confidence building measures and joint military exercises with China apart from significantly improving communication infrastructure along northern borders, management of internal security in J&K, focused and articulated response to repeated provocations along LoC, are some major initiatives taken by the Army during the past two-and-a-half years under the leadership of Suhag," Ojha said.
