Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lent his name to a gala -- called Modi Fest -- being planned by his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to mark the third year of its government at the Centre.
Modi, however, does not refer to his name but stands for Making of Developing India.
The festival will be kicked off by the prime minister with a series of events and a public meeting in Guwahati on May 26, and will conclude on June 15. Party chief Amit Shah is also likely address the media on the opening day.
The celebrations are planned to be held across 300 towns with seven programmes, a party leader said.
Ministers and BJP leaders will tour the country to highlight central schemes and make the people aware about the government's "successes", BJP leaders said.
"There will be at least one event in every district," a party leader said.
The BJP government, which celebrated its second year in power for 15 days with a series of programmes, wants this festival to be even bigger.
The massive saffron win in Uttar Pradesh, coupled with a fractured opposition which has so far been unable to challenge its surge, has given a boost to its top brass which has already set its eyes on the next Lok Sabha polls in 2019.
Shah believes that a continuous cycle of public outreach with an emphasis on highlighting the "pro-poor" policies of the Modi government, besides its "corruption-free" reign, will go a long way in maintaining the BJP's dominance in electoral politics.
