Chaudhary, who was here to attend a health camp in his native village Kapoori, told reporters that "the PM has nominated Akhilesh because he is an energetic leader with a clean image".
"The PM feels that doing so (by nominating Akhilesh) his campaign would be successful," he added.
The minister, however, claimed that it was SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, who was first to take concrete measure towards cleanliness by constructing toilets during his chief ministership.
