Modi targets UPA govt over foreign policy, military

BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today targeted the UPA government over foreign policy as well as military modernisation, saying because of its "dysfunctioning" the country was facing great pressure from Pakistan and China.
"Today, the current dysfunction in Delhi has prevented even the much-needed military modernisation and upgradation of India's defence infrastructure. As a result, the Indian armed forces are under great pressure from the northern and western frontiers," Modi said while delivering the Nani Palkhivala memorial lecture at Madras University.
Modi stressed the other pillar of India's foreign policy should be stratergic and security interest. "We had remained insensitive where we needed to be sensitive and we remained weak where we needed to be strong. The same policy unfortunately is continuing even today," he alleged.

He also said no other country suffered due to terrorism like India in the recent past. "It is central to our foreign policy as terrorism is driven from abroad. We need to unite the world against terrorism," he underlined.
Modi praised the policies of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was instrumental in conducting nuclear tests, inviting sanctions from other countries.
"Atalji could even convince countries like Japan because he had the full confidence and support of the people", he added.
Without naming Finance Minister P Chidambaram, the Gujarat Chief Minister critisised the UPA government. "Today the UPA is in ICU. I do not know why the Tamil people sent this person to Delhi," he said.
