Molestation by teachers case: school principal arrested

The principal of a public school here has been arrested in connection with the alleged case of molestation of girl students, police said today.
Yavatmal Public School principal Jacob Das was arrested last night under section 21 (failure to report an offence) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, said Superintendent of Police Akhilesh Kumar Singh.
Two teachers -- Yash Borundia and Amol Shirsagar -- were arrested three days ago on the charge of molestation after parents of about a dozen students lodged a joint complaint alleging they sexually assaulted the girls in the KG and primary classes.

Police had later added the charge of rape against the two teachers.
Meanwhile, a mob today tried to vandalise the memorial of the late Congress leader Jawaharlal Darda here on his birth anniversary. The school is run by Jawaharlal Darda Education Society with which his family is associated.
Some women, whose daughters study at YPS, tried to meet JDES secretary and chairman of YPS' management committee Kishor Darda at his residence. Tension prevailed as they got into a heated argument with Darda's wife.

MLA Madan Yerawar, along with SP Akhilesh Singh, rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the women who sought Kishor Darda's arrest.

Yerawar called up the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on mobile phone and requested him to address the mob.
Fadnavis, through a loudspeaker connected to the mobile handset, assured that stringent action would be taken against the guilty.
Some parents also tried to block the Yavatmal-Amravati highway. Police resorted to lathicharge, in which the district guardian minister Sanjay Rathod (38) sustained injuries, local police officers said.
Rathod addressed a meeting of parents in the evening to defuse the situation.
