The Southwest Monsoon hit Supaul district of Bihar today, triggering light to moderate rainfall in eastern and north-eastern parts of the state.

The rain-bearing winds are likely to advance towards the other parts of Bihar in the next 48 hours, the Met department said.

"The showers brought much-needed relief to parts of state that suffered over the past few days due to intense heat condition. The monsoon winds are expected to reach Patna in two to three days if it continues its journey at its normal pace," an official of the Met department said.

The central and westerns parts of Bihar, however, continued to reel under sweltering heat, with Dehri in Rohtas district recording the highest temperature at 41.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Gaya at 40.6 degrees Celsius and Patna at 40.3 degrees Celsius.

The Met office has predicted a cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunder tomorrow in four major cities of Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Purnea.

"The formation of dark black clouds, along with windy weather, brought some respite to the Patnaites, but that was largely because of a cyclonic circulation that persisted over Bihar and adjoining sub-Himalayan West Bengal," the official said, adding the state capital did not experience rainfall today.
