Most parts of Odisha sizzle above 40 degree Celsius heat

Most parts of Odisha sizzled under gruelling heat today with the mercury level crossing 40 degree Celsius in 16 places as the state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded the hottest at 42.8 degree Celsius.
Bhawanipatna, the district head-quarters town of Kalahandi district, recorded 42.7 degree Celsius, the meteorological centre here said.
The Met office also warned that heat wave condition may prevail over some parts of north Odisha during the next 48 hours.
While the entire state was reeling under the gruelling heat, the coastal towns of Puri, Gopalpur and Paradip recorded 34.2 degree C, 33 degree C and 32 degree C respectively.
Roads in almost all the towns wore deserted look as people preferred to remain indoors.
The entire western region sizzled under scorching heat as the maximum temperature in the coal belt of Angul was recorded at 42.7 degree Celsius, followed by 42.5 degree at Titlagarh and 41,7 degree at Sambalpur.
The mercury crossed 40 degree Celsius in places including Talcher 41.2, Balangir 41.8, Hirakud 41.1, Jharsuguda 41.6, Baripada 42.7, Malkangiri and Sonepur (41) and Cuttack (40 degree).
