Mozambique naval officers get training from Indian Coast Guard

In a first, naval officers from Mozambique have arrived here to undergo training at the Coast Guard Region (East) here, to handle indigenously-built interceptor boats as part of an international cooperation between India and the east African country.

According to a statement issued by Defence wing, the training is aimed at providing hands-on experience in handling the boats before India donates two units (boats) to the Mozambique Navy.

Underscoring the cooperation between the two nations on issues of security, especially maritime safety in the Indian Ocean, the statement said the training meant stepping up of mutual cooperation.

"The aim of training curriculum enables the Mozambique Navy personnel to get acquainted with the chances of operating these highly versatile boats which are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and sensors," it said.

The training programme is being conducted in two groups for 14 personnel each.

The first group has arrived in Chennai and training commenced yesterday extending till November 16.

The second group would be joining in the first week of December.
