"Niti Aayog will go a long way in meeting India's developmental challenges," the Madhya Pradesh CM tweeted.
Chouhan said the Niti Aayog would lay the foundation of a true federal structure.
"Constitution of the Niti Aayog has laid the foundation of a truly federal structure in the development process of transforming India," he said.
"2015 has opened a new vista for co-operative and democratic values-based development of the country," the chief minister wrote on his blog.
However, after 1991's economic liberalisation, the Planning Commission, in its current form had lost its relevance and its lack of democratic functioning had become evident during the last few decades, he said.
