Ahead of the Assembly elections which are due by year-end, the Madhya Pradesh government today announced the creation of a new district in Bundelkhand region.
The new district of 'Niwari' was being carved out of Tikamgarh district, an official press release said.
It takes the number of districts in Madhya Pradesh to 52.
Objections and suggestions would be invited from people over the creation of the new district within 60 days from the date of the publication of notice in the official gazette, it added.
The new district would include three tehsils of the present Tikamgarh district Niwari, Orchha and Prithvipur.
Local leaders in Niwari were demanding a separate district for long. The new district will border on Uttar Pradesh.
