MP govt to provide housing for homeless families: Governor

Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel said here today that the government will provide a plot or a house to every homeless family in the state.
"A campaign is being launched in the state from today to provide a plot (or house) to every entitled homeless family," Patel said during the state-level Republic Day function at Lal Parade Ground here.
"In the rural areas, there is a target of constructing 15 lakh houses under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana by next year, while in the urban areas, 10 lakh houses would be constructed by 2022," she said.
On the occasion, Patel listed the achievements of the government and said the state has been clocking a double-digit growth rate since the past one decade.
"The size of the state budget has crossed Rs two lakh crore," she said.
The governor also said that the government would launch a scheme to provide pension to all widows, except those who are government employees or the income tax payers.
"The number of high schools in the state has doubled in the past one decade, while expensive treatments, like chemotherapy have been made available free of cost in all district hospitals," she said.
From the next academic year, the state government is going to launch seven new medical colleges in the state along with establishing super speciality centres at Jabalpur, Rewa and Gwalior, she said.
Patel said the government has also launched several schemes to eradicate malnutrition.
Talking about basic amenities, she informed that all the urban bodies in the state have become open defecation free (ODF) while water supply schemes are being implemented in 5,000 villages of the state.
Patel also reiterated the government's commitment to double the income of farmers in the next five years.
"This year has been full of problems for the farmers when the prices of crops have come down due to slump in the international market. In a bid of compensate farmers in this situation, the government has launched Bhavantar Yojana to provide benefit of minimum support price (MSP) to the cultivators," she said.
She also highlighted the government's achievement in the power sector, irrigation, road network, smart city development, employment, women empowerment, river conservation etc.
On the occasion, the governor also felicitated Rajesh and Mamta Koranne, parents of a 20-year-old Shashank, whose organs were donated, after he was declared brain dead following an accident. Patel also honoured government officers of various departments for their contribution.
Despite cold weather, thousands of people turned up to witness the parade. The troupes of various schools presented the cultural programmes, while tableaux of 20 government departments were also taken out.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan hoisted the national flag and participated in the Republic Day function at Guna.
