Madhya Pradesh government today decided to set up a department to address the concerns of NRIs.
"We are going to set up a department to address the concerns of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). This will be MP's 64th department," state Health Minister and government spokesperson Narottam Mishra told reporters after the Cabinet meeting here.
The move to open up the new department comes after some NRIs met Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the United States where he had gone to woo investors to Madhya Pradesh sometime back, Mishra said adding that he (CM) was briefed about the problems that they face in the state.
He said that the NRIs told the Chief Minister that their tracts of land for doing business were being encroached upon in MP and they were facing problems in the absence of a quick mechanism in place.
To a query, Mishra said the recent untimely rains and hailstorm have caused crop damage to the tune of Rs 756 crore, and added that the natural calamity wrecked havoc in 2.60 lakh hectares affecting around 3.07 lakh farmers in the state.
He said that the Cabinet also pondered over the recommendations to be sent to the Centre for dealing with the situation arising out of natural calamities that often damage farmers' crops.
