Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association will take a call on holding its biennial elections in tomorrow's annual general meeting scheduled here, against the backdrop of R M Lodha panel's advice that the poll process should be put on hold as of now and the High Court rejecting a plea seeking stay on the polls.
"We have taken the legal opinion on the Lodha Panel's view, and we will place the entire facts before AGM. The AGM will take a call on whether to go ahead with the polls or not," MPCA CEO, Rohit Pandit told PTI today.
Experts feel that if tomorrow's AGM sticks to the Panel's view and decides against holding elections, then, as per MPCA constitution, the existing body will remain in place until new office bearers are elected.
Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia is the incumbent chairman of MPCA and former BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale is its president.
While hearing a writ petition on August 26, the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh HC refused to stay holding of MPCA AGM and elections, even as it sought a reply from the cricket body within four weeks on the matter.
The petition was filed by senior MPCA member Leeladhar Paliwal and four others.
The HC has fixed September 26 as the next date of hearing.
The petitioners demanded that the elections should be held at the association only in compliance to the Supreme Court's order for BCCI and also other cricket clubs in the country.
The apex court had accepted Lodha committee's recommendation on reforms in BCCI on July 19.
