MSME Ministry tells KVIC to firm up action plan for Khadi

MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra today asked the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to prepare an elaborate, time-bound action plan to revitalise sector, with emphasis on promotion of the Khadi brand.
In a review meeting with KVIC officials to revamp the sector, the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) Minister pressed for optimum utilisation of existing infrastructure and its upgradation, along with ensuring economic sustainability without compromising the swadeshi spirit and legacy of Khadi.
He further called for efforts to increase the income of artisans who are the backbone of Khadi activity, and building Khadi as a robust brand while putting in place a healthy supply chain to widen its presence in the market.
"A synergy between Khadi and Village Industries sector should be worked out to expand its presence in the domestic as well as overseas markets," Mishra said.
He also urged for accelerated implementation of Khadi Reform and Development Programme (KRDP), an Asian Development Bank assisted programme.
The Minister also stressed the need for working out a strategy for time bound implementation of the action plan with emphasis on physical monitoring of the programme and its regular review so as to ensure the results of the our efforts reach the intended target beneficiaries.
