Fourth seed Sasi Kumar Mukund was the lone seeded player to be stretched to three sets, even as other top players advanced to the second round of the ITF Futures Mandya Open tennis tournament here today.
Sasi conceded the second set but wrapped up the third against a determined Anvit Bendre to move into the second round of the men's singles with a 6-4 6-7 (3) 6-3 win.
Tournament top seed Antoine Escoffier of France, who drove straight to the tournament venue from Bangalore after missing his scheduled flight from France, disposed off wild card recipient and upcoming Indian youngster Aryan Goveas in straight sets.
Maharashtrian Akash Wagh had to sweat it out against Lakshit Sood before winning the match 6-4 7-5. However, the scoreline is misleading for a match that lasted a little over two hours.
Wagh will next take on eighth seeded Vishnu Vardhan.
In doubles, the Japanese pair of Shotaro Goto and Kazuma Kawachi, seeded fourth, defeated the Indian duo of Rohan Bhatia and Abdullah Shaikh in straight sets to enter the last eight, while Haadin Bhava pairing up with Tejas Chaukulkar breezed past another Indian combo of Jatin Dahiya and Sidharth Rawat 6-1 6-4.
The last pair to make it to the quarterfinals were India's Maninder Singh and Siddarth Vishwakarma with a 6-3 6-1 verdict.
