Haryana sports minister Anil Vij has said that the presence of multiple Olympic associations in the state was proving to be detrimental to the health of sports.
"In the matter of cricket, the Supreme court took cognizance..We hope for other sports too such a decision will come some day to set things right, then sports in this country is bound to touch new heights," Vij said speaking at an event here.
Without naming anyone, Vij, who is a senior minister in the BJP government in the state, said that "functioning of the so called two-three Olympic Associations in Haryana who had been believing themselves as right and others as wrong, was confusing the players and proving detrimental to sports.
"We are taking a number of steps to promote sports in the state. Haryana is a nursery of sports and has been producing medal winners at international level. However, there are some difficulties which are being faced as 2-3 Olympic Associations are functioning in the state," he said.
Hitting out at one such parallel association, Vij said that some people were running the body thinking it was their fiefdom.
"For years together, no polls are held, no accounts have been got audited, a meeting of general house is never called and this Association is running like a private company, which is detrimental to sports and players' interests," he said.
