A senior officer privy to the development said today, "We have received some inputs that the team which would go to Indonesia to bring back Chhota Rajan also faces threat perception (like the gangster) and we are taking extra vigil in this matter."
"We have shared our concerns with the host country and urged them to ensure safe and smooth passage while departing from there," he said.
Rajan, one-timed trusted aide of underworld don and terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, was nabbed in the tourist town of Bali early this week.
Asked when the don is likely to be brought back to India, the officer said, "Nothing can be said as of now. We are awaiting instructions from Home Ministry and CBI as well, because the team which would go to Bali would be headed by CBI."
Yesterday, an officer from Crime Branch flew to New Delhi to apprise the Union Home Ministry about criminal cases filed against Rajan in the metropolis, the gangster's home turf, where he is wanted in 75 cases, including suspected role in murder of investigative journalist J Dey.
