With an eye on the 2014 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress today asked its workers to put in necessary efforts at panchayat and block levels to ensure that the party is in a position to "dictate terms".
"We must ensure that we are in a position to dictate terms," said Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma, while addressing a public meeting in his constituency here today.
Taking a dig at the BJP, the Minister said there is "Modi fever" all around, but that won't help the party in Jammu and Kashmir.
"There is 38 per cent malnutrition in Gujarat. You may build large infrastructure, but if your health is not good you won't be able to do anything. Then how can we say that Gujarat is a developed state?" he asked.
Sarcastically commenting about the BSP, the Minister wondered whether its party chief Mayawati will be able to construct any roads in the state.
Sharma, meanwhile, informed that the government was committed to conduct the local body elections in the state and said that a date in this regard will be announced soon.
"There are people who don't want to share power with anyone. But few months back I had told you that local body elections will be held. It was a commitment made by the Congress and I am happy that election dates will be announced in a couple of days," he said.
