Embarking on his six-day visit to India, Myanmar Army's Commander-in-Chief Vice Senior General Soe Win today met officers of the Eastern Command and discussed issues concerning security and enhancement of military ties between the armies.
Accompanied by wife, General Win, also the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar Defence Service, visited the Eastern Command headquarters at Fort William here today.
During his meeting with Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Dalbir Singh, Gen Win discussed issues concerning security, enhancement of military ties between the armies and other issues of mutual interest between the two countries, Defence sources said, but declined to comment on whether border fencing issues in Manipur was also raised during the meet.
Myanmarese troops had made an attempt to raise a defence post and fencing close to the undemarcated boundary along Manipur prompting India to take up the issue and push for a joint border working group in August last.
The visit comes after Army Chief Gen Bikram Singh's five-day visit to the neighbouring country last October. It assumes special significance in the light of enhanced defence cooperation between the two countries and the growing relationship. On a six-day visit to India starting today, General Win left for New Delhi in the evening from Kolkata.
