Nagaland govt organises colloquium on road connectivity

A colloquium on road connectivity
organised by the Nagaland government today decided that all implementing agencies and contractors should ensure transparency and accountability and also use right technology in road construction and maintenance.
Government departments and implementing agencies - Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority attended the colloquium.
Hundreds of representatives of all the tribal organisations in the state and concerned civil societies and pressure groups attended the marathon discussions.
Transparency, accountability and right technology should be ensured to achieve good quality roads for a connected Nagaland, it was resolved in the colloquium.
The meet also decided that no objection certificate will be obtained from the tribal organisation, villages and landowners to help expedite the process of road constructions.
In this, it was resolved that all help and support will be extended by the community and villages.
It was also accepted that project details would be displayed along with the name of the contractor and implementing agency at the project site.
The participants also demanded that contractors should use right technology and materials for making and maintaining the roads as the state is prone to landslide and heavy rainfall.
It also decided that the existent Quality Control Board under the state government would be strengthened and made more proactive in checking the quality of roads.
It was also decided that all the agencies and departments involved in road construction would open social media accounts for better monitoring of ongoing projects through sharing of pictures on the progress of work.
