"There are a few youngsters, say in the age group of 15 to 16 years and are really working hard. In another five to six years, they, including from Coimbatore, will be seen in action in top race events," he told reporters here but did not elaborate.
Karthikeyan, first Indian driver to race in Formula 1, was replying to a question why youngsters from the country were not attracted towards racing.
Earlier, unveiling medals and race T shirts, for the Coimbatore Marathon 2015, scheduled here on October 4, he asked the parents to push their kids to outdoor games.
"Sport, any type, will teach you discipline, it teaches you team work and also makes you healthy for the life," he said.
Parents should create awareness among their children to have healthy food, since the present day food habits are not healthy ones, Karthikeyan said.
