Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, the Congress candidate for the November 19 by-poll to the Nellithope Assembly constituency, filed his nomination today.
Narayanasamy, along with the functionaries of the ruling Congress and the party's alliance partner DMK, came in a procession to the office of Returning Officer (RO) G Malarkannan in neighbouring Thattanchavady to file the nomination.
As today was the last day for filing papers, candidates of various political parties and Independents made a beeline to the RO's office to submit their nominations.
Scrutiny of nominations is slated for tomorrow, while November 5 is the last day for withdrawal of candidature.
The by-poll was necessitated after Congress' A John Kumar quit the post of MLA on September 15 to enable Narayanasamy, a non-member of the House, seek election.
AIADMK nominee and the man challenging Narayanasamy in the by-poll, Om Sakthi Segar, had filed his nomination on October 28.
AINRC has announced its support to AIADMK with the party's founder and former chief minister N Rangasamy alleging that the by-poll was "imposed" on the people.
He had also alleged misuse of power by the Congress and "rampant prevalence of money power" in Nellithope constituency.
The Left parties have decided to opt out of the by-poll while the VCK has pledged its support with the Congress.
