The incident took place when a group of 32 people, hailing from Ahmedabad, went to take bath at Nareshwar of Karjan tehsil, 60 kms from here, on the occasion of 'Agyaras', when hundereds of devotees from Gujarat congregate to take a dip in the holy river.
According to Vadodara Collector Avantika Singh, the search operation which continued for the second day today after the incident, lasted till 10.30 AM when bodies of all the victims were recovered and sent to hospital in Karjan for post-mortem.
The deceased have been identified as Kaushik Jadhav (29), Jainish Pravinbhai Narola (12), Alpesh Prajapati (42), Praful Bavasiya (35), Manish Pethani (35), Vipul Narola (25), Kunal Jagani (22) and Rushik Pravinbhai Narola (15).
The victims met the watery grave when seven of them jumped into the river to save the 12-year-old Jainish who was caught in the heavy currents, police said.
