"Date for applying for stream 2 has been extended by 15 days till July 15," Regional Director of NIOS Sanjay Kumar Sinha said in a statement here.
June 30 was the last date for applying online under the programme, but following intervention of NIOS chairman C B Sharma, it has now been extended to July 15, he said.
The extension has been provided in view of problems expressed by a large numbers of students that they have not got the mark sheet from Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), he said.
NIOS under Union HRD Ministry provides opportunity to students who failed to clear their regular board exam in order to save a year.
Sinha said, so far more than 1,500 students have registered themselves under the stream 2 examination for class X and XII and the examination would be conducted in September-October this year.
Under the scheme, a student will have to appear in alternative examination in at least three subjects including the one he/she failed.
Marks of two subjects, which a student clears in the original board examination would be credited in the alternative exam.
Taking note of problem faced by students in coming to Patna to appear for the on-demand examination, NIOS has decided to conduct the test at four other centres in Purnea, Gaya, Ara and Darbhanga in addition to Patna from this year.
