In the men's singles pre-quarterfinals, Shetty representing BPCL defeated Sourav Chakraborty of IOCL in straight sets -- 11-7 11-6 11-7 11-9.
In an exciting match, India's top paddler Sharath Kamal (IOCL) prevailed over Subhajit Saha (OIL) 11-9 12-10 11-8 7-11 11-8. The match saw some intense rallies before experienced Sharath closed out the contest.
A match which saw some high quality table tennis and also a lot of unforced errors was between 15-year-old and HPCL's Manav Thakkar who lost 2-11 12-10 9-11 4-11 11-6 2-11 to Sourav Saha of ONGC.
Manav showed glimpses of exceptional skill during his loss which reflect the tremendous talent he possesses and will be a player to look out for in the future.
