National Herald case not political vendetta, says Piyush Goyal

Nobody is above law, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said today after Sonia and Rahul Gandhi appeared in court in National Herald case as he rejected their charge of political vendetta.
"I don't think anybody is above the law. The law must prevail," Goyal said replying on accusations of opposition on National Herald case at the sidelines of FICCI Annual General Meeting here.
"Political parties are public in nature. They are given certain exemptions and benefits. The funds collected by political parties are meant to be use for political purposes only. If somebody were to try and divert public purposes to private means, I don think anyone of you call it political vendetta," the Union Power Minister said.

Referring to National Herald case, he said, "This is case in which government has nothing to do. They may say what they like but the fact is that the whole nation has seen the papers and reality."
Aboutf Robert Vadra's remarks on the issue, the minister said, "Well you will all recall the kind of statements this gentleman has made in the past and the derogatory manner in which he talked about the common man of India. I personally will not look for an endorsement from a person like him."
Vadra today expressed confidence that truth will prevail in the National Herald case in which his mother-in-law Sonia Gandhi and brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi are accused and said the "desperate malicious attempts of defamation" will not be believed.

"My full support to my mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Politics of vendetta and desperate malicious attempts of defamation will not be believed. Truth shall prevail," Vadra said in his Facebook post.
Sonia and Rahul were granted bail by a Delhi court in the case.
