Nationwide security blanket ahead of I-Day

A tight security blanket was thrown across the country on the eve of Independence Day to thwart any terror strike even as an elaborate ground-to-air security apparatus was put in place in the capital where Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will unfurl the tricolour tomorrow.
Personnel from Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in and around the city, especially near the Red Fort from where Singh will also address the nation.
In Mumbai, a ban has been imposed on use of para-gliders and remote control micro light aircraft for the celebrations tomorrow. According to police, there are reports that terrorists or anti-social elements may attack the Maharashtra Secretariat through para-gliders and remote control micro light aircraft.

In the northeast, six militant groups have called for a boycott of Independence Day celebrations and announced a general strike tomorrow from 1.30 AM to 5.30 PM.
Officials in Assam said the border with Bangladesh has been sealed with the BSF on alert to prevent entry of extremists, while night curfew imposed along the inter-state boundary with Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
Troops along the Line of Control (LoC) have been directed to remain vigilant as army apprehends that militants might try to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir and carry out attacks on security forces and civilians.
Security has also been beefed up in Jammu and Kashmir, especially after the recent incidents of communal clashes in Kishtwar.

In Delhi, hundreds of CCTVs have been installed in and around Red Fort with sharpshooters from NSG deployed on high-rises near the 17th century Mughal monument, officials said.
