Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has not attended the Chief Minister's Grievance Cell since about six years though the officals received a huge number of petitions from the public.
This was informed to the Odisha Assembly by Public Grievances and Pension Administration Minister Jogendra Behera while replying a written question of BJP member Dilip Ray. "The Chief Minister had attended the Grievance Cell for the last time on August, 16, 2008," Behera said.
Stating that actions were being taken by the state government on different matters concerning the people, Behera said the Chief Minister's Grievance Cell has received as many as 79,862 petitions from the public this year till November 17.
The minister informed that the Chief Minister's Grievance Cell functions on all the working days and hearing of petitions are made on every Monday.
Behera admitted that the government was aware about the activities of middlemen and "dalals" of bringing people to the grieance cell by giving them false assurance. "In its effort to stop the middlemen activities and make people aware of their rights, the government has issued advertisement in newspapers," he said.
The minister said the district collectors and SPs have been asked to take actions in this regard. The commissioner of police and other senior police officers are also directed to take stringent action against middlemen.
