Naveen directs officials to gear up restoration work in Ganjam

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today asked officials to expedite relief and restoration works in the areas affected by cyclone Phailin and floods in Ganjam district.
The Chief Minister also stressed on the need for taking immediate steps to ensure proper sanitation in the calamity affected areas to avoid possible outbreak of epidemic.
"I have reviewed the damage caused due to cyclone and floods in the district and also crop loss," Patnaik said.
While reviewing relief works in the aftermath of the calamities, Patnaik asked officials to expedite relief operation in the affected areas, sources said.
The Chief Minister, along with Chief Secretary J K Mohapatra, conducted an aerial survey of calamity-hit areas in the district before they reviewed the situation with district level officials at Chhatrapur, the district headquarters.
Most of the MLAs from the district and Lok Sabha members from Aska and Berhampur and Rajya Sabha member Renubala Pradhan attended the meeting.
District administration has estimated a loss of around Rs 5,852 crore due to damage of houses, crops and public properties in the twin disasters.
While the damage was to the tune of Rs 3,432 crore in cyclone, which struck on the night October 12, property worth Rs 2,420 crore was damaged due to floods triggered by heavy rains between October 23 to 26, officials said.
