"Kampalli Sambaiah alias Naveen is the member of the Maoists Committee of Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts. Though he was not involved in any offences in Karimnagar district, Naveen had escaped the encounter with police at Puvvarthi in Khammam district in 2013 and then fled to Chhattisgarh," said Karimnagar SP V.Shivakumar.
The Senior police officer said that Naveen wanted to join the mainstream because he grew "frustrated" with the ideology propagated by the Maoists he decided to surrender. "Besides, he also had some health issues," Shivakumar said.
The SP said that six top leaders belonging to the Central Committee of Maoists and 32 cadres from Karimnagar district are involved in underground operations.
