: Mumbai's Nayan Chatterjee and Anindith Reddy of Hyderabad stole the show on day one of the second round of 20th JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship here today, winning one race each in the Euro JK 17 category.
Kolhapur's Chittesh Mandody (Avalanche Racing), Joseph Matthew and Sri Lanka's Jaden Gunawardena were the other winners of the day, comfortably winning races in the LGB Formula 4, Suzuki Gixxer Cup and Red Bull Road to Rookie Cup categories.
The Euro JK races were interesting affairs with the top five drivers locked in an intense battle. Round one leader Vishnu Prasad of Chennai began on pole and seemed to be in his elements once again, building a comfortable lead. He clocked the fastest lap (1:01.218) and looked set for another win.
However in lap 6, Sandeep Kumar crashed and the safety car came out, leading to a turn of events. Vishnu, though continued to lead. Australia's Ricky Capo seized the opportunity and jumped into the second position and for his first podium finish in India.
Misfortune struck Vishnu in the penultimate lap as his engine suddenly stalled, and he could only watch helplessly as the field zoomed past him with Nayan Chatterjee winning the race.
In the second race, with the reverse grid coming into play, Nayan started sixth and Anindith fourth while Vishnu had to begin from the pit lane. The Chennai driver managed to beat one driver after another to take a deserving third place.
Anindith took the chequered flag ahead of the field.
In the Gixxer Cup, Joseph Mathew of Chennai continued his winning run, recording his third victory in the championship, ahead of Sanjeev Mhatre (Mumbai) and Lalmawipuia (Aizawl).
