A delegation of opposition National Conference (NC) visited the residence of Suhail Ahmad Sofi, who was killed in police firing on protesters in central Kashmir's Budgam district on Saturday, to express solidarity with the family.
"A high-level party delegation of NC visited the residence of young Suhail at Narbal and expressed solidarity with his family for their inconsolable loss. The NC Leaders said that this was a tragic and unacceptable incident and prayed for peace to the departed soul," a spokesman of the party said.
He said the delegation conveyed the condolences of NC president Farooq Abdullah and working president Omar Abdullah to Sofi's family and said such incidents were unacceptable and brought grief and sorrow to every single conscientious citizen of the State.
The delegation was led by NC provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani, senior NC Leaders Ali Mohammad Dar, Aga Mohsin Mustafa and Manzoor Ahmed Wani.
The NC delegation had yesterday tried to visit Sofi's residence but claimed that police had not allowed them to proceed towards Narbal.
Police, however, refuted the claim saying it did not stop anybody from visiting the family of the deceased.
"The District authorities of Budgam requested the leaders of the political party to delay their visit by some time as at that point of time, some separatists were at the mourners' house and there was an apprehension of breach of peace," a police spokesman said.
